The Community Assistance Directory is an online resource created and maintained by the State Outreach group of the University of Michigan's Office of the Vice President for Government Relations. It is a public service for residents of the State of Michigan for their professional and/or personal use in improving the quality of life in their individual communities.
While UM programs frequently have global impact, this particular directory is designed primarily to serve Michigan residents. Target audiences include the business and industrial communities, community agencies and developers, educators (early childhood to adult), health care providers, libraries, local and state governments, social service agencies, and the general public.
The Community Assistance Directory provides information about professional outreach efforts that are ongoing (as opposed to one-time-only events) and conducted primarily in Michigan by UM faculty and staff who manage, and/or are actively engaged in, such efforts on behalf of the University. Due to space constraints, this directory does not include the numerous volunteer efforts conducted during the personal time of UM staff. Each directory entry describes a current (i.e., this fiscal year -- July through June) UM state outreach program. These programs provide varied degrees of information and assistance to Michigan residents, and fall under one or more of the following major subject areas:
